A Word from our Curator | Radio-Hull 2025

I feel very lucky to have had the chance to put together this edition of Radio-Hull. In my own life and artistic practice, radio has often been a place to try out a sketch of something new, to meet a friend or collaborator, to hear music that I never would have found otherwise.

The festival theme is "Call and Response". We'll open the live rendez-vous by offering a chance to participate in 'tzakzeeka' - a live singing/sounding group that inspired the festival theme, with its loops, echoes and song learning (à l'oral). And we'll close the rendez-vous series with 'drone day', a Radio-Hull tradition of group music-making.

In between, I hope you'll join us for the many themes developing simultaneously from the roots of the first. All are conversations - with water, with old and new instruments, with departed ones, and with curses!
