Andrée Préfontaine holds a graduate degree in musical performance (cello) from the University of Montreal, a bachelor's degree in visual arts from the University of Quebec in Outaouais, and a master's degree in arts practice from the University of Quebec in Montreal. She has performed in recitals and concerts and participated in the recording of albums, radio programs, and soundtracks. Pursuing a multidisciplinary practice, she has created several bridges between music, visual arts, and media arts by establishing close relationships between the visual and auditory aspects of her works.
Andrée Préfontaine has developed her artistic practice by exploring the moving image through two central themes: portraiture and landscape as subjects for artistic exploration in video installations. At the same time, she questions the notion of authorship and develops real-time sound content through participatory musical performance. An improviser and audio artist, she is involved in the Quebec artistic community and has participated in several sound creation and media arts events organized by various artist centers in Quebec and Ontario. She has also participated in dissemination activities as an artist and curator. Having received numerous awards and recognitions, her artistic work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and several of her works are part of private collections. André Préfontaine lives and works in Gatineau, Quebec.
