RADIO-HULL's RADIO | Digital launch, available year-round

Updated: Aug 15, 2023

A child of the pandemic, Radio-Hull was born out of the need to provide spaces for creation and broadcasting in a context where people couldn't physically be together inside a building. Radio perfectly symbolized this gesture of reaching out to the unseen, of reaching out into the ether to combat isolation.

Radio is intrinsically geographical and linked to its place of existence. Our aim was not only to promote creative projects by artists from the community, but also to give a voice to the often little-known music from both sides of the river. Radio-Hull's mission is to play only local music, i.e. music made by artists living in the Ottawa-Gatineau-Outaouais region.

With each passing year, the formula was refined and the discotheque expanded. The project was big enough to be able to offer this continuous stream all year round. Thus was born Radio de Radio-Hull, a specialized digital radio station. Its name is obviously a nod to a certain Crown corporation that one day had to differentiate its media channels.

A visionary for the music scene, Radio-Hull is now not only an annual festival, but also becomes a continuous vehicle for the sounds of an entire region. At any time of day or night, from anywhere in the world, its listeners can now hear something that's been simmering here.

In time, its database will become a veritable catalog of the region's musical history, bearing witness to the richness and diversity of the sounds of the City of Hull and many of the towns that surround it. Long live Radio-Hull!
