Michel Prévost

Michel Prévost, M.A., D.U., holds a master's degree in history from the University of Ottawa. He was the chief archivist at the University of Ottawa from 1990 to 2017. He has been actively involved in promoting history and regional heritage for 45 years. He has been president of the Société d’histoire de l’Outaouais since 1997. He has been a member of the Table du patrimoine religieux de l’Outaouais since 2005.


Michel has received several awards for his commitment, including the Rector’s Award for Service to the University of Ottawa and the Heritage Award from the City of Ottawa and the City of Gatineau. He is a member of the Order of Prescott and Russell and the Order of Gatineau. In 2005, he was named Personality of the Year in the arts and culture category by Le Droit and Radio-Canada.


In 2013, the Réseau du patrimoine franco-ontarien created an award bearing his name, and Saint Paul University awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2015 for his outstanding contribution to heritage. The University of Ottawa offers the Michel-Prévost Scholarship in Regional Studies, and the Université du Québec en Outaouais offers the Michel-Prévost Scholarship in Regional Heritage.
