Rachel Weldon is a music curator and vinyl DJ based in Hull. She is the founder and director of Debaser and Pique festival. Her experimental practice explores alternative temporalities through abstract turntablism. She is also an improvising musician primarily using the cello. Having started Debaser as a radio program on CKCU FM in 2012, her music curation roots are in community radio and media. She curates vinyl-only DJ sets from a collection of recordings by independent artists, underground labels, and record stores around Canada and Europe. She has participated in experimental performances presented by the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation and Ottawa Drone Day, has produced sound art compositions for Théâtre Trillium, and DJ’d for dance floors hosted by Signal, Congrego, and SAW.
