Claire Duguay

CLAIRE DUGUAY is a composer, arranger, pianist, singer and teacher. Her experience is characterized by her versatility and flexibility in combining her many skills.


After studying piano and musicology at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Hull, she moved on to commercial arranging with Dave Hildinger at the University of Ottawa, and vocal technique with France Dion at UQAM. She then worked as an arranger for various groups in the Outaouais region: the MAXIME vocal trio, Réjean Gauvreau's Big Band, brass quintet, popular music and jazz orchestras. She composed and arranged several jingles, 2 of which won CDNA awards. In sound production, she has worked as a composer, arranger, producer and backing vocalist on several albums.



Recipient of grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Ministry of Education, in 1993 Claire Duguay launched Berceuse, emporte-moi... a book-cassette of lullabies for children, in collaboration with Ottawa publisher Pierre de lune.


Also working in theater as a composer-arranger, she has scored dramatic productions for Théâtre du Trillium and Théâtre des Lutins Théâtre de l'Ile, including “Quand Marie est partie”, which was nominated at the 2002 Gala des masques for “Best Production/Region”. She also gives aural culture workshops to actors in the Outaouais region.


Claire Duguay is also keyboardist and pianist-accompanist for several performers. Her stage appearances as pianist and backing vocalist include the Montreal Jazz Festival, Canada Day festivities on Parliament Hill, La nuit sur l'étang and the Festival Boréal in Sudbury, the Festival Franco and numerous radio and TV broadcasts.


A sought-after accompanist and teacher, she is a member of the team behind Ontario Pop, Tout nouveau tout show and Gatineau prend la scène, either as accompanist, juror or vocal technique or interpretation trainer. In 1993, she was invited to assume the musical direction of the Rencontres internationales de la chanson francophone à Orford. In September 2008, she joined the Productions musicales l'Artishow team as a teacher of singing, choral singing and theory.


Between 2009 and 2013, the Festival de Montgolfières de Gatineau entrusted her with the artistic direction of its concept shows. She worked with some of the biggest names in Quebec song, from Nanette Workman, Laurence Jalbert and Michel Pagliaro to Marie-Mai and Vincent Vallières, etc. On stage, she appeared in the comedy magazine CASH-CASH, from 1994 to 1999. She has also been a member of the group Les Chipies since its inception in 1995. Feminist humor, poetry and song are on the menu of this group, which frequently tours Quebec.


General and artistic director of L'Avant-Première since 2014, she is responsible for the launch and artistic direction of the Projet 3e œil artistic residency program.
