Jean Couteau is an artist collective that takes the form of a fictional character. Our projects blend performance, music, installation, and social practice. Some are public, others secret, and some are downright illegal.

The story of Jean Couteau has its roots in a colonial working-class role-playing game: an industrial town literally at the end of the road, anxiety, despair, and then the escape toward the city lights.
